PBX

Definition: A telephone exchange serving a single organization, having a switchboard and associated equipment, usually located on the customer's premises; provides for switching calls between any two extensions served by the exchange or between any extension and the national telephone system via a trunk to a central office. Abbreviated PBX.
pedestal telephone
Plural: pedestal telephones
Definition: A table telephone in which the transmitter and receiver are mounted on a pedestal. Includes the style colloquially referred to as a candlestick telephone in which the transmitter is fixed to the top of the pedestal whilst a separate receiver that is placed to the ear when in use hangs from the side. Also applicable to instruments such as Telephone No. 12 where a handset is mounted in a cradle on top of the pedestal.
