We lived by the telex.. Before the fax we lived by the telex because messages came in overnight. Our licensed engineering parent company was actually from the United States so we did have this enormous time difference, so the telex was our means of communication up until the time of the fax. The actual fax machine itself, both at the time and since, I regard as one of the most revolutionary developments ever to take place I think. To be able to send a hand written letter to someone at the other side of the world or more pertinently in my case, to be able to send a sketch of what you wanted drawn up, I thought it was truly amazing. I didn't quite understand how it operated at first and when I first heard about them I didn't believe that you would be able to send drawings over the telephone line.
