BT Archives' searchroom in High Holborn in central London is open to the public, by appointment, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Many items are available to researchers on the open shelves in the searchroom, such as company annual reports and journals as well as a general library on the history of telecommunications. The most popular items with researchers are the telephone directories, which date from 1880 to the present. These have been microfilmed so that the original directories are not damaged through heavy research use.
