Antenna No. 1, known as Arthur, the satellite dish in front of the Visitors Centre, was built in 1962 to track Telstar, a low orbit satellite.
Arthur set the pattern for thousands of dishes around the world and represents a major landmark in our telecommunications history. Arthur has been nominated for listing by English Heritage, along with the BT Tower in London and a further eight important communication structures and buildings.
