Many years ago I was working as a young T2a on Subs Apps in South London.
One day I was called to a house where the elderly lady reported her phone was not ringing properly but she knew when somebody was calling her because her dog barked/yelped.
I arrived and set the phone ringing and sure enough the phone was ringing but her dog in the back yard was barking in unison with the rings i.e. ring ring....bark bark.
She was on a shared service line in those days and on closer examination I discovered the she had chained her poor dog on to the Earth Return Wire that was dug into the earth at the Customer's Premises. The poor dog had a metal chain, and the current passed though him to earth every time she had a call. It packed quite a punch too.
She was devastated when I told her and my clear was Re-routed Earth Wire.
I often wondered if the dog lit up in the dark.
